Professor Dr. Helmut Niegemann is an Honorary Professor for Educational Technology at the Saarland University and Senior Professor in Economic and Business Education at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Formerly, until 2012, he was a Full Professor and Chair in Learning and Interactive Media at the University of Erfurt (Thuringia, Germany) and from 2001 to 2003 an Associate Professor at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Technology Ilmenau. From 1997 to 2000, he was Head of the Department of Instructional Design at the former German Institute for Research on Distance Education (DIFF) at the University of Tuebingen (today: Knowledge Media Research Center, IWM). Further places of teaching and doing research were the universities of Darmstadt, Heidelberg, and Mannheim. He also gained practical experience as a freelance technical writer, instructional designer, trainer (application software, C-programming), and as a project manager in a Mannheim media company and after graduation as a teacher for psychology and education at the center for vocational education Neunkirchen/Saar. He graduated (M.A.) and got his Ph.D. here at Saarland University. His main research interests are instructional design, technology-based assessment, micro-learning, and learning with AR/VR-technology. He teaches „Design Thinking“ and parts of the EduTech lectures.
